Last year, BCAM received two grants – from La Foundation Solstice and the Government of Canada's 'New Horizons for Seniors' Program – that have allowed us to further our mission of education and advocacy in the community. These grant monies will allow us to convey information about toxic chemicals in beauty and personal care products to marginalized groups and organizations, minority populations, and to seniors.

The Breast Cancer Prevention in Action project targets women and girls who might not ordinarily be aware of our breast cancer prevention message. We have designed a PowerPoint workshop to inform the public about the effects of continuous exposure to a variety of toxic chemicals in personal care products, and to outline ways to effect change with governmental regulators and the manufacturers of these products. The workshops will be presented by trained volunteers.

The long-term goal of this project is that, once an understanding of the implications of environmental contaminants (in this case, in personal care products) are recognized by a greater number of women and girls in various communities, they will be able to share this in their own networks and thus join the breast cancer prevention movement.
