Join the ENRICH Project and partners Shake Up The Establishment, Prevent Cancer Now, Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, Environmental Defence, and Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment, in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month when the ENRICH Project launches the Environmental Injustice of Beauty. The Environmental Injustice of Beauty is a social media campaign that will build awareness among BIPOC youth and others about the diverse health effects of toxic beauty and personal care products, and the role of white/Eurocentric beauty standards in influencing product use. You will hear from a social media influencer who will amplify the campaign’s key messages across a wide range of social media platforms (Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, Linkedin), and share her personal experiences and views about the products lurking in our homes that may be harmful to our health and well-being. Each week during the campaign, we will be sharing information, personal stories, and experiences related to the campaign’s four key messages:

1) Living up to white beauty standards is toxic: white supremacy, colonialism, and patriarchy.
2) What’s lurking in your beauty products?
3) Is your daily routine toxic?
4) The beauty products you use now can harm you later: cumulative toxic effects.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month promotes early detection, celebrates survivors, raises research dollars, and highlights lifestyle factors and personal behaviour choices. The role of environmental factors including toxins in beauty products is absent. This campaign will shed light on these gaps, bring awareness to women of their toxic exposures, and address the inequities for racialized, Indigenous, and working women, among others. The campaign also aims to connect the need for reform in policy, law, and regulation to prevent breast cancer and other adverse health outcomes linked to toxic exposures.
